Health Study Shows “Sleeping” and “Eating” May Increase Hit Points

JORDHEIM - A new study suggests that consuming foodstuffs, or "eating," and lying prone in an unconscious state, or "sleeping," may provide increased hit points, a heightened state of alertness and a general feeling of well-being.

Released today by the Jordheim Scientific Institute, the study may change common perceptions of health and fitness in Midgard. Eating and sleeping are not required for Midgard's active citizens, and many spend days on end in the wilderness, returning to town only to empty their packs and train in new skills. The prospect of stopping to eat and sleep, both for enjoyment and greater health, has sparked a great deal of speculation among the citizenry as to the potential social impact.

"Why, if I stopped smashing hill cats and wolves long enough to roast a chicken and perhaps make a nice salad, I'd never keep up with me comrades!" complained one Norseman, who then skewered a passing grendelorm on his sword.

Others were more circumspect. "I think sleeping under a starry sky, and dreaming of romance and happiness, would be lovely," said a female Kobold hunting near Skona Ravine. "It would certainly take my mind off of the crushing boredom of slaying beasts, selling their skins, increasing my skills, and doing it all over again, for the rest of my days."

Though the study was careful not to speculate on exactly what effects eating and sleeping might have if incorporated into a regular regimen, it did suggest that they should make Midgardians feel more relaxed, healthier and generally happier. As these effects are unlikely to translate into direct statistic increases or observable advantages on the battlefield, however, the authors admitted they don't expect their study to change many people's behavior.
